The Homeless Shelter

Every day, on the way home, I ride past the homeless shelter.  When I ride past there, I can almost feel the depression and despair oozing from the streets.  I often wonder how did these people end up there.  Substance abuse and untreated mental illness are probably the main reasons.  In 21st century America, it isn’t necessary to live like that.  There are treatment options for the mental illness and there are vocational counselors paid by the State who can help nearly anyone get a job.  Sad choices.
